MERLOT Awards: Service to MERLOT - 2008 Volunteer Awards

The Volunteer of the Year Award honors the hard work and generous donation of our members’ time, energy and enthusiasm that they direct towards the growth and development of MERLOT. These individuals do not receive any support from our partners for completing these responsibilities.  We really rely on our Peer Reviewers to help expand the MERLOT collection and perform the Peer Review process.  These individuals are nominated by the Editorial Boards and then selected by our Project Directors. This year we were able to award three Volunteer of the Year Awards to individuals who are not supported by one of our academic partners, but who continue to provide service to MERLOT.  All three recipients served on a panel for a presentation at the MIC entitled, “Peer Reviewing for MERLOT:  How You Can Get Involved.”

CooperHanleyScott Cooper – Co-Editor of Biology (University of Wisconsin – La Crosse)  His Co-Editor in Biology had this to say about Scott:  “He completed 37 triages, 16 individual reviews and 9 composite reviews last year.  He also added 10 learning materials and 5 assignments.  He works with our peer reviewers and has worked with adding learning assignments to the Science Education Resource Center, MERLOT partner. He can always be depended upon to complete his reviews in a timely manner and adds a great deal to the camaraderie of the Editorial Board.”

DavisHanleyDanny Davis – Associate Editor of Math (Shorter College).  His Editor said, ““During the past several years, Danny has consistently been a most productive and most dependable peer reviewer.  More than that, the quality of his work is exceptional!  His dedication to MERLOT and the peer review process as well as his attendance at several MERLOT International Conferences and has been a source of inspiration to the Math team.  I can’t speak enough about his contributions to the MERLOT Math team.”

UlstadHanleyIngrid Ulstad – Peer Reviewer of Business (University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire).  The  Associate Editor of Accounting said, “Ingrid has been a member of MERLOT since March 2003, having attended a MERLOT  presentation at the North American Accounting Society in Chicago, IL.   As a result of attending that conference, she contributed her Sweet Treats Corporation Simulation and signed on as a peer reviewer.  Since that time Ingrid has gone beyond the call of duty in terms of the number of reviews she has completed.  Her reviews are always submitted on time and reflect careful though with respect to MERLOT review criteria.  She has also participated in 2 paper presentations and 1 panel presentation to build the MERLOT community.”
